Conservation Resource Solutions Dispatches 175 Megawatts of Demand Response to Stabilize Electric Grid Reliability in New England
Conservation Resource Solutions, Inc. (CRS), a leading provider of Smart Grid and Clean Tech energy demand management technology solutions, announced today that it successfully responded to ISO New England's call for Emergency Demand Response on Thursday afternoon, June 24. CRS responded to emergency conditions by dispatching 175 megawatts of targeted electricity demand reductions at more than 500 consuming assets in New England. ISO New England, the regional bulk power system operator for the six-state New England region, was facing a need for additional power resources due to unforeseen events affecting the power grid.
"For ISO New England, Real Time Demand Response is a key available resource to ensure regional system reliability and stabilization of electricity prices through active, real time management of peak demand in an environmentally responsible manner," said Leo Desjardins, Chief Executive Officer of CRS. New England wholesale electricity prices peaked at more than $1,100 per megawatt hour at 2:20 p.m. Thursday afternoon and then dropped back down to a more normal $60 per megawatt hour range 20 minutes after we dispatched our demand response assets, which saved New England consumers millions of dollars in electricity costs," added Desjardins.
CRS' iEMS web-based software-as-a-service platform and its demand response support services are used by ten demand response providers in New England (major utilities, municipal electric companies, cooperatives, other independent energy retailers and their 1,100 plus end use consumers) for demand response related dispatch communication services, meter data management and the monitoring and analysis of facility energy usage in near real-time. During Thursday's demand response event, CRS' system was able to notify over 2,000 email addresses and make automated phone calls to more than 3,000 phone numbers within 5 minutes, ensuring that its customer base could quickly respond to the emergency.
"Our iEMS software platform and services, hosted by CRS, provides a very cost effective way for utilities and other market participants to offer demand response products to their retail customers. The iEMS platform allows users to know in real time if they are meeting their commitments by providing analysis tools to assess their performance throughout a demand response event. CRS' ready-made infrastructure also allows demand response providers to quickly go to market and avoid IT and other resource and development costs
needed to build a demand response support platform of their own," said Todd Moran, CRS' Chief Operating Officer.
"CRS enables our utility and non-utility customers to retain and build their own brand equity with retail consumers and control the purse strings of demand response, while alternative solutions take this power away from them," noted Moran.
5-12-08 CRS Launches iEMS Version 2.0 Web-based Application
